I am Michael Piziak, a retired U.S. physical science person and retired secondary Science teacher certified in Biological Sciences 9-12, Science 5-12, and Soc. Studies 5-8. I am working on my Doctorate as I have a masters plus 30+, as one generally only needs around 60 hours to get a Doctorate. This forum is named Science-naturalists because the "n" is lower case as anyone can be a naturalist. A capital "N" without the "s" would mean it was a title of someone like Charles Darwin. Both titled Naturalists and amateur naturalists are welcome and encouraged to post here! Also, please introduce yourself and tell us where you are a naturalist at!

Hi, Michael (and all others),
I'm Tony, a retired LGO, living in Norfolk UK. I have been wildlife oriented my entire life, and when health permits I enjoy birding along the North Norfolk Coast. I do not drive, so can relax on public transport for the journeys, using my Pensioners' bus pass ! Look forward to reading posts from everyone, and contributing when I can.
Tony

Hi Michael & all...
Mike here in County Durham, UK. I'm neither scientist nor naturalist, but I've a keen interest in all aspects of nature. I live right on the edge of some beautiful countryside, and just a short drive (20 - 25 minutes) from some amazing coastline. There's always something to see if you keep your eyes open and wits about you!
Congrats on launching your science-naturalists forum. I'll check in from time-to-time and post when I have something interesting to ask or say!
Best wishes
Mike

Howdy from New Jersey, USA! For years I've focused on local wildlife, but less so since the pandemic and these days do more with insect macro.
I'm certainly no scientist, and I don't think I would qualify as a "naturalist", but I do try to observe and learn and consider the connectedness of the natural world.

Welcome and what is a LGO ?
Welcome to my friend in the UK from me in West Virginia in the U.S.
Many people are like you and love wildlife. I especially like seeing wild birds here such as hawks, some call them chicken hawks, owls, and woodpeckers. I also don't drive & use public transportation a lot. I actually got a DUI driving Cheech & Chong style about a year and a half ago. The cop pulled me over and I was still smoking a joint and smoke was coming out the window when I rolled it down. He knew what I was doing but still asked me, "Why were you driving 3 mph son?"
My answer was an honest one, "I was paranoid and looking for cops." Straight to jail!

I love insect macro photography. I have the manual Pentax old school 50mm and 100mm macro lens. There super easy to use with the green button to set exposure too! I'll have to post a link to my photos on flickr - a few of them are pretty good, I think so anyways, big smiles!
You certainly don't have to have a fancy Science degree to qualify as a naturalist on this page. In fact, anyone that observes nature, including the entire observable Universe, and tries to explain it is already a Scientist. Many Scientists in European History had no Science degrees. Some had inherited fortunes and dedicated their entire lives to Science discoveries, always publishing their work in Science journals so the Scientific community could reproduce their work and if enough could verify it, then it would move up to the Theory Level and if really good perhaps become a Law one day!
I don't think any real "Naturalists" are even on this page (yet). I tend to think of a professional Naturalist such as Charles Darwin as having the title and thus I spell "Naturalist" in front of their name with a capital "N." Here, you'll notice the name of this page is "Science-naturalists" which includes the pros and the amateurs!

If anyone knows of a way I can "boost" this page or get more people to visit and post here, please do tell. When I "advertised" this page on 2 other pages that were camera related I was scolded on one for driving traffic away from their page and banned on the other (dpreview.com). And speaking of advertising, I don't receive any revenue from the ads on this forum - those funds go to the real owners of these boards called ProBoards (.com).
