From the internet, Symbiosis is when 2 organisms interact with each other. There are 3 types, which are Mutualisms, Paratism, and Commensalism. Commensalism is the type I observed between a Chicken Hawk and a large Insect.
Commensalism is an association between two organisms in which one benefits and the other derives neither benefit nor harm.
I was watching a very large insect, which looked like an oversized ant to me. It found a dead piece of insect, which looked like a piece of dead moth to me. The live insect was making his way back to his home (a hole in the ground), when suddenly a loud screeching sound from a Hawk was heard and the Hawk flew right down and landed near the live Insect.
I thought the Hawk was going to eat the live Insect, but no. The screeching and subsequent landing of the Hawk right over the Insect made the bug release its dead moth and quickly scurry to it's hole.
I watched the Hawk grab the dead Moth and return to the top of a nearby tree - about 50 yards away. Then, the process occurred again, and again, and again. The live Insect kept finding dead food and the Hawk just kept on taking it from him. The Hawk obviously was benefiting and the live Insects only benefit was that he was allowed to escape with his life.
Thus I ask you the question, if I were like the live Insect and provided you a free meal each time you yelled at me, would you kill me?
