Raccoons are notoriously mean fighters. When I lived in Morgantown, WV, working on my Biological Sciences certifications, I lived in a trailer, with my ex-wife who was attending law school. The trailers in the trailer park were very close together.
The trailer next to us, well, our trailer was lower in elevation to it. I would hear Raccoons and Cats fighting underneath our neighbors trailer frequently.
I once watched a show, where if all humans died and went extinct, then dogs would die too - because dogs are too dependent/domesticated and rely on humans to feed them to keep them alive.
Not with the common house cat, however. The television show said cats would live on if humans died away. While cats are domesticated, they still have the wild instinct inside them - they certainly are not as domesticated as dogs. I can't tell you how many times I've been riding my motorcycle in the forest and seen feral cats. I never see wild/feral dogs in the woods.
The very fact that house cats will fight with raccoons says a lot about cats. Again, raccoons can be very wildly mean. Since house cats/feral cats will fight with them, well it says a lot about how bad ass cats are too.
A friend of mine told me he seen a cat fighting with a raccoon. He said the cat jumped on top of the raccoons head and clawed all the fur off the top of the raccoons head - the raccoon scurried away.
Sure, I'm sure, sometimes raccoons win the fight. But cats also win the fight. The mere fact, again, that cats will fight with mean ass raccoons says a lot about how bad ass cats can also be.
