There have been studies and experiments that Scientifically prove that if a person is put in a sound proof room, they start hallucinating. The longest anyone could make it in the sound proof room in this article, only made it 45 minutes inside before wanting out.
In the link above, and I quote, "No one can stand more than 45 minutes inside Orfield Laboratory's ultra-silent anechoic chamber."
I decided to do this experiment on myself. There are two train tunnels close to my house. At around 2am I took my flashlight and some sound proof ear buds to the middle of the tunnel. Not could I hear no sound, I could see nothing when my flashlght was turned off. I then put my sound proof ear buds in my ears, with no music coming through them, and this is what happened to me.
Within a second or two, I immediately began hallucinating. Now keep in mind I don't believe in superstitions, ghosts, etc... I did begin hallucinating immediately. I knew what I seen was not real, but it still scared me. A split second into putting the sound proof ear buds in and turning my flashlight off, I singular lights traveling across the train tunnel from the end of the tunnel to over my head - one light after another, in the shape of the sides and ceiling of the tunnel, warped over and over across my head. Then about 2 seconds into my experiment, I looked toward the other end of the train tunnel. I seen a ghost lady and a small ghost child with her, holding hands. Each outreached their other hand as they walked toward me. It scared me immensely. I immediately took the earbuds out and turned my flashlight off. If someone would have been with me, I know I could have made it longer than a few seconds - but I was in the middle of this train tunnel, alone, in the middle of the night. I know what I seen was not real, but it still scared me.
